Hi Paul, Thanks for the info. I am really a novice, so apologies for asking a silly question maybe but what is the difference between a Showmans Engine and an SRL? Or is SRL the proper name for it?
The proper name for it is a Showmans road locomotive=SRL the smaller ones based on light traction engines are Showmans Tractors=ST in general a large engine if it has a solid flywheel and belly tanks is a Road Locomotive=RL ,Tractors=T also have solid flywheels and may have belly tanks, agricultural general purpose engines normally have spoked flywheel=TE and ploughing engines winch drum under boiler are=PLG road rollers all types=RR but this is not conclusive as there are also convertable engines=RR/TE,RR/T and crane engines RL(C) or TE(C) I am sure I have missed some out and someone will fill us in with the rest
"Goliath" was originally built for the war dept as a 10hp Compound Road Locomotive and was converted to a "Showmans Road Locomotive" I believe in the 1930's it travelled around the North Midlands and was found in Trentham gardens in a bit of a sorry state. Soren.
